You’ve just had the most amazing holiday. You explored, you relaxed, you wined and dined, you slept in till noon. But now, you’re back at work, dreaming of your time away. It’s reasonable to expect that you’d be feeling a little blue after returning from your holiday. You’re not alone, post holiday blues are common.
Now that we’ve just come back from a magical weekend away the post holiday blues have hit us. That’s why we decided to put together this post to let you guys know what you can do to help with those post holiday blues.
1. Plan your next holiday
Rather than being upset about missing your last holiday, take the time to plan your next. Even though you’ll likely need time to accrue annual leave and holiday money, starting to make those plans gives you something to look forward to. Scrolling through booking sites, checking out stunning locations and starting to plan dates can bring about joy and excitement.
In saying that, don’t get ahead of yourself. Make sure not to immediately book something irrationally and get yourself in financial debt or in trouble with the boss!
2. Make sure you’re kept busy
Just because you’re back to ‘normal’ life, doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy yourself outside of your work hours. Keep yourself busy, go out for dinner after work, book a Friday night in with the girls or plan a weekend road trip. Being back to work doesn’t mean you have to stop ‘living’.
3. Incorporate self care into your everyday life
Take the time to do something you enjoy everyday and take care of yourself. Whether your self care is exercise, a bubble bath or a delicious meal, make sure each day you’re doing something you enjoy.
4. Talk to someone about it
Chat to someone about it, whether it’s friends, family members or a professional. Sharing how you feel and addressing your emotions can help you deal with them.
5. Take work one day at a time, one task at a time
When you walk into work on Monday morning don’t freak out about having to work an entire week, just focus on just getting your day done. Set goals and task lists for each day, taking the day one task at a time. Before you know it, it will be the end of the day, and before you know it, it will be the end of the week.
We hope this post has helped. It’s important to recognise that you’re not alone. A lot of people suffer from post holiday blues. You need to acknowledge your feelings and make changes to work through them while waiting for your next holiday.
