Alright so after one of our last posts where we called out shady Instagram techniques, such as following and unfollowing and asking for followers. We decided to put together this post to help you grow your Instagram account (without using spammy techniques). But rather than you just taking our word for it we decided to reach out to some of our favourite perth foodie and lifestyle accounts to grab their tips for Instagram growth.
‘Finding your niche. What makes you special and what makes you unique. Whatever that is, stick to it. This is something that we’ll be placing more focus on this year and I’m sure you guys have already noticed it. For us our niche is our relationship.’
‘I’m gonna say networking! Getting in touch with and meeting likeminded people and building a little community where you all support each other’.
‘Be authentic and honest. I’ve not bought any followers and only started posting reviews based on my personal experiences to share with the community on what dishes I thought were nice and what wasn’t and/or what was or wasn’t worth the money’
‘We would love to add how important engagement is with other followers, they’ve taken the time to take an interest in our lives, so we always make the time to reach out and thank them, this later turns into a conversation. We are very lucky to have such a fab following!’
‘The #1 tip I always mention is consistency. You have to be consistent with your content, I guess the Instagram algorithm takes that into account and your audience will; 1. Not forget about you and 2. Appreciate your posts.’
‘Instagram is not only a one way street but a two way street. We found that being proactive in engaging with followers and potential followers is essential in growing our Instagram account. Engage with your followers by commenting on their posts and give them love by liking their posts. At the same time, don’t forget to reply to coomments on your own posts too! We need to continue spreading and sharing positivity and love around the Instagram community.’
‘Stay true to your brand. We like our photos to be as natural as possible so followers are seeing the true representation of the food. We only put up food that we are happy to recommend. PS – also have fun with your page!’
‘Genuine engagement is important. Always engage with IG accounts that you’re interested in! It’s important to check on your loyal followers too once in a while :)’
‘Content is king so keep your postings and the style of your shots consistent. Of course you should develop your own signature style but keep it consistent’.
‘Every post should tell a story. Doesn’t matter how short but a story helps anchor down your audience and gives a personal buy-in towards the influencer that he/she is a real person.’
‘Interact, engage and build relationships. Get active and network, link up, follow and ask questions. Get to know who’s who.’
‘Be authentic: There is so much real fun to showcase, why wouldn’t you be real? Sometimes it can feel as though social media is filled with so much inauthentic content that it’s so important to try to post real information and real feedback to your account. We always try to create our own content based on our own experiences so our followers get to see the real deal! If we like it, we post it, and followers will come to value that when they head out and get the same experience as we did! Authenticity is always the key :)’
‘Follow and tag hashtags in your geographic area ie. #perthisok #perthbreakfast etc for more of a wider audience to see your photos.’
‘Start your own hashtag so others can see this and start using your tags.’
‘Post regularly (every day or second day) to keep your audience engaged and always updated!’
‘Insta stories are always a must! If you post stories regularly more people will interact/see them and begin engaging in your insta.’
‘My number one tip for organic Instagram growth would be reaching out to like minded accounts who share the same passion for what your account is all about. Having other profiles with similar target markets repost and share your content gives you access to a larger audience and connects you to people who share the same interest in what you love. When I first started I took a risk and reached out to other influencers and content creators that I looked up to and asked them to share my content on their page! Don’t be afraid to take a risk and always stay authentic to what you love, not just what you think people want to see.’
‘Growing my food account has been a labour of love (i.e. being consistent with posts over a long time period, usually a few years), refining your photography skills, engaging with the food industry (especially local businesses), responding to positive comments on your own posts and on other peoples posts and making sure your content is up to date, relevant and true to your own influencer vision!’
And there you go, we hope you enjoyed our post and learnt a thing or two! While there’s more to Instagram than just growing your follower numbers, if you are looking at growing your account, these accounts are living proof that growth comes from doing things ‘the right way’; being authentic, consistent and engaging.
A huge shoutout to everyone who participated in this post and shared their top tips with us. Make sure to check out all of their accounts, they’re all pretty amazing people who post pretty amazing content.
